Inspiration Wednesdays

I decided to join the Inspiration Wednesday art journaling course by Donna Downey this year. I joined late and am in the process of getting caught up on all the wonderful creativeness. So far I have the first two completed. Loving learning how to use my art products in new ways, thinking outside the box and generally getting my fingers in the paint! No matter how old you are, a bit of finger painting is always good! So here are Week 1- 07.01.15 and Week 2 - 14.01.15.

Top 10 Lists

Week 21 at Journal 52. A hard one to get my head around and decide on which direction to go! I decided in the end to go for top 10 places I would love to visit at some point. Who doesn't love to travel and explore our amazing planet?!

To create this piece I painted the background with acrylics and sprayed distress inks over the top. I then used different landmark and travel dies to cut the various shapes out and created a montage of the London skyline, classic red bus, along with a globe, boat and plane. I arranged these and decorated with Washi tapes and some travel rub-ons, then finished with my journaling card of my Top 10 Places To Visit.

Good Advice

An interesting prompt over at Journal 52 for Week 20. Choosing just one piece of good advice was hard, so I went with something I had had a discussion about recently - Be with a man who ruins your lipstick. Not one who makes your mascara run.

To create this I drew two portraits in pencil and then added colour and texture with watercolour paints. I stamped the good advice on separate card, cut out and attached in place. This was a fun journal page to create!

Outside In

Journal 52 has the theme of Outside In this week. I have always liked the idea of being a bit topsy-turvy! So this week I decided to create a painted journal page. I had the idea of wanting to use bubbles in my piece, with the thinking of how they let the outside in - reflecting the world & then popping to absorb it all!

I drew the outline of my shapes first & started with colour washes all over, then built up the detail. It's a bit more pastel coloured than I usually opt for, but hopefully gives a feel of sunshine, spring & bringing the outside in to our lives...

Have a fantastic week finding your creative mojo!

Observations

Week 18: Observations, at Journal 52. I like the idea of this prompt as it is open to so many interpretations. I chose to base mine around a quote I love: If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies. To create this I started with a tissue paper collaged background and a thin layer of blue paint on top. I then spritzed some distress stain over the top in pinks, yellows, blues and gold. Stamped butterflies and a cage on top then stamped the butterflies in acetate too.

I chose to stamp out the quote on white paper and embellish with some punched leaves and butterflies, adding a few gems as a finishing touch. Then added some splats of blue on top to blend in with the background better.

Treasure

It's been a rather hectic couple of weeks, lots going on at work and several birthday celebrations to cram in! So I'm on catch-up time. Journal 52 had the theme of Treasure for Week 17. So many things to do - pirates of course, treasures of the mind, treasures in the world, things we treasure....

I decided to find a quote that sums up the thought that we all have treasures awaiting us and created a collaged, painted, stamped background to put it on and decorated with die cut shapes and a wooden die cut compass. I had fun creating this one, although not too sure on the final finish of it.
